Still popular today, IDE cables and there variations have been the standard when it comes to connecting internal storage devices to your computer, internal peripherals like Hard Drives and CD/DVD drives. While they still offer reasonable performance and security they are nowhere near the incredible speeds offered by technology that SATA cables can bring. Obviously you may not be able to use SATA inside your computer, but a surprising amount do offer the capabilities of using the more modern technology.
