The DisplayPort video signal is not compatible with DVI or HDMI, but a DisplayPort connector can pass these signals through. Though simular to a HDMI Cable, this is not in fact the same, please beware before purchase. Some Manufacturers like Dell, now provide monitors with DisplayPorts and we would expect to see more in due course from other computer equipment manufacturers too.

Q: my samsung dvd home entertainment system has a usb port on the front of it - i have been using it with a flash drive to watch video files off my notebook but, can i connect my notebook directly to it with a display port cable and watch them on my plasma tv that way or do i have to connect directly to the tv?

Hi, can you double check that your notebook has either a DisplayPort or HDMI socket, as both look simular but are very different! We would recommend a connection directly from Notebook to Plasma TV. If you forward your TV and Laptop Make / Models by e-mail, we will best advise the cables you will need! Thanks....
